Wine Spectator März - 2006

Loads of honey, maple syrup, dried apricot and spice. Full-bodied, medium-sweet, with a refined, spicy character. Pretty wine. Masses of botrytis. This is refined and long, a racy wine compared with the power and muscle of so many others. Beauty among the beasts. Best after 2012.

Jancis Robinson Mai - 2009

Rich, sweet honeyed orange marmalade aromas. Exotically spiced, highly spiced. Very sweet, even on the finish though the spice adds zest so that it is not cloying. Exotic, infinitely rich, dense and viscous. Enormous but still with such pure fruit on the very long finish. Extraordinary to retain freshness within such an intense wine.

Château Climens
Chateau Climens, is a vineyard of 30 hectares located in the Barsac appellation.  Climens is ranked 1st growth by the official classification of 1855. The vineyard's 30 hectares are in all together in one parcel, the soil is composed of red sandy clay on a limestone base. The vines are 100% Semillon (which is a rare monocepage in the region), with a density of 6600 plants / ha for an average age of 35-year-old  vines 35 years old. Climens produces only a sweet white wine. Climens yields are particularly low, with an average of 7 hl / ha, or 4 hl / ha in the difficult years, to maintain quality and exceptional concentration. The estate produces a second wine called Cyprès de Climens in memory of a curious tradition: when the vessels were leaving port on the Ciron, they were given a branch of blue cypress to insure future payment. Overall the wines produced by Climens are consistently of a very high level. In fact, they are made with great care and high quality thanks to the high demands of Berenice Lurton.Great vintages: 1971, 1983, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1990, 2001, 2005.
