(4-1999). This wine, a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot, is performing well after its July, 1998 bottling. It boasts an impressively saturated purple color, in addition to a backward yet intense nose of black plums, currants, licorice, and smoke. Following terrific fruit on the attack, the wine's structure and tannin take over. There is plenty of sweet fruit, and the tannin is well-integrated.

Since the attack the wine is required by a sharp and vigorous fruity freshness, followed by a substantial tannic structure and a nice fat. It continues to move smoothly to a final sustained, still as fresh and tasty.

(1-1999). Dark-colored, and bubbling over with raspberry, black currant and spices. Full- to medium-bodied, with well-integrated, silky tannins and a spicy, fruity aftertaste. Palmer is always a joy to taste and the '96 is no exception.

With a high proportion of Merlot (40%), the `palate impresses with its velvety texture, the finish being relayed by the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon (55%) and Petit Verdot (5%). `If the whole is slow-at least eight years to melt, the quality and concentration of tannins allow for a seamless aging. ».
