Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Tasted at the evening dinner in Southwold. This bottle was brought by John Avery just a few weeks before he passed away and as usual, anything from his uncle’s stash of claret usually leaves you speechless. Quite simply, this bottle is as good as Bordeaux gets. It has a deep, clear hue. The nose is difficult to describe in words: a spellbinding kaleidoscope of red berries, black truffle, a touch of anis and then Cepes. It is complete and heavenly with delineation that is unimaginable. The palate is medium-bodied with immense depth and structure, but by no means a powerful Graves. It is underpinned by melted, fine tannins, a silky texture and indeterminate secondary flavours nigh impossible to pin down. This is even better than the one bottle I tasted from the chateau in 2008. People say there is no such thing as a perfect wine. This fathomless beauty would probably agree, blissfully unaware that it could not be improve in any way or fashion. Thanks John!

Extremely rich and broad. Great sweet bricks and minerals character. Full, sweet and persistent. The star of the show.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider

The Château La Mission Haut-Brion, is a vineyard located in Talence in Gironde. Located in AOC Pessac-Léognan, it is classified Grand Cru in the classification of wines of Graves. The estate was bought in 1983 by the Dillon family, owner of Haut Brion. It is undoubtedly this propensity to give everything at once that distinguishes the wines of La Mission Haut-Brion and seduces many tasters. It is also the exacerbated expression of the soil of Graves of Pessac. In the course of its breeding and getting older, the Mission Haut-Brion is always generous, it is committed totally permanently. The hedonistic side of the Mission Haut-Brion and the permanence of these qualities are features that make it very attractive. La Chapelle de la Mission Haut Brion is the second wine of the domain.

The greatest vintages are : 2000, 1994, 1993, 1990, 1989, 1988, 1986, 1985, 1982, 1981, 1979, 1978, 1975, 1964, 1961, 1959, 1955, 1953, 1952, 1950, 1949, 1948, 1947, 1945, 1929.
